CAROLINA ROLLERGIRLS ROLLER DERBY | SEASON 3: BOUT 5 WRAPUP

Raleigh, North Carolina - August 20, 2006... The Carolina Roller Derby 2006 Season Championship. This is the final bout of Season 3... the brawl for it all. One team will take home the coveted Golden Skate and the other will have to wait until next year. This has been a very exciting season, and the Championship is shaping up to be a brusin' and brawlin' good time. The track at the Skate Ranch is lit in front of a sellout crowd for one last time... so as Rockerboy would say at bout time... "let's get ready to derby!"

Tension was thick as the reigning champ Debutante Brawlers took to the rink to defend their title against the undefeated Tai Chi-Tahs. The bout got kicked off with a scoreless jam, but then Teflon Donna and the Debs jump started the scoring with 4 points while Eris Discordia and the Chi-Tahs scored none. Princess America and the Chi-Tahs didn't sit idle long, as they dropped 12 points on DVS and the Debs in the next jam. However, a resounding "touché" could be heard echoing through the Skate Ranch as Eva Lye and the Debs smacked down 19 points while holding Betty Rumble and the Chi-Tahs scoreless. This put the Debs up by a score of 23 to 12. Princess America and the Chi-Tahs clawed back in the next jam with 10 points while Shirley Temper and the Debs scored 6. In the following jam, Marcy Killer and the Chi-Tahs once again chewed at the lead by scoring 8 points while holding Kitty Crowbar and the Debs to only 3. After a few tight scoring jams, Teflon Donna and the Debs reopened their lead by scoring 15 points and keeping Princess America and the Chi-Tahs to just 5 points. Betty Rumble and the Chi-Tahs cut into the lead in the next jam by getting 11 points and holding Billy the Kid and the Debs to 8. At the end of one period, the Debs hold a slim lead over the Chi-Tahs... 61 to 53.

The second period started off with a scoreless jam, with the Debs still holding on to their lead. But Princess America and the Chi-Tahs would have something to say about that as they put up 13 points to Teflon Donna and the Debs 4 points to give the Chi-Tahs a one point lead. Teflon Donna and the Debs stormed back into the lead a few jams later by getting 9 points and holding Princess America and the Chi-Tahs scoreless. In the next jam, Betty Rumble and the Chi-Tahs had their claws out, as they ripped the lead away from Anita Mandalay and the Debs by outscoring them 14 to 3. After a few more fairly even jams, Teflon Donna and the Debs once again retook the lead by holding Marcy Killer and the Chi-Tahs scoreless and putting up 9 points of their own. As you might expect, Penelope Bruz and the Chi-Tahs fought back in the next jam by getting 12 points and blanking Billy the Kid and the Debs in the process. The Chi-Tahs now hold a 94 to 89 lead on the scoreboard, but maintained it only briefly as Teflon Donna and the Debs scored 13 points a few jams later while holding Princess America and the Chi-Tahs to zero. Two jams later, Teflon Donna and the Debs added 4 points to their lead while keeping Marcy Killer and the Chi-Tahs off of the scoreboard. At the end of the second period, the Debs hold the lead in the bout over the Chi-Tahs by a score of 113-101.

Princess America and the Chi-Tahs roared out of the blocks in the first jam of the third period with 10 points while Teflon Donna and the Debs scored only 4. The next three jams saw the Debs increasing their lead to 9, by outscoring the Chi-Tahs by one point in each of the jams. Maddat U and the Chi-Tahs fought back a little in the next jam by scoring 4 points while blanking Teflon Donna and the Debs. In the following two jams, the Debs once again outscored the Chi-Tahs by one point in each of the jams to slightly increase their lead. The next jam would prove to be the turning point in the bout, as Eris Discordia and the Chi-Tahs ripped off 14 points while holding Billy the Kid and the Debs to zero. The Chi-Tahs now lead by a score of 138 to 131. The next few jams were tight scoring ones, with neither team making any large dents in the scoring. Teflon Donna and the Debs cut the lead down to 6 in the next jam by scoring 4 points with Eris Discordia and the Debs only scoring 2. That would be as close as the Debs would get from here to the end of the bout, as the Chi-Tahs held on to their lead to win the bout by a score of 149 to 142.

The Tai Chi-Tahs continued their domination right through the end of the season, taking home the coveted Golden Skate and remaining undefeated. Next up for the Carolina Rollergirls will be three great Interleague bouts... where the best of the Carolina League will team up to take on other teams from around the country. After another full season of beating up on each other... it is time to take out their aggression on some tourists.

Be sure to check out the next Carolina Rollergirls home derby bout on Saturday, September 16th when they take on the ladies from Sin City in an Interleague bout. It will be the first bout in their new pad, Dorton Arena... so don't miss it! Get yourself some tickets if you are near the Raleigh area or check out the local rollergirls in your area.
