CAROLINA ROLLERGIRLS ROLLER DERBY | SEASON 3: BOUT 3 WRAPUP

Raleigh, North Carolina - June 25, 2006... The Brawl of the Unbeaten. The Tai Chi-Tahs and The Debutante Brawlers squared off to see who would remain undefeated and get an automatic birth to the championship bout. While one team will remain unbeaten, the other will have to ready themselves to take on the winless Trauma Queens in the semi-finals. Longfellow said "into each life some rain must fall"... and it seems it has been raining non-stop in Brawleigh for a week. The wet weather did not serve to dampen the sprits of the derby fans, who once again came out in sellout numbers to cheer on their rollergirls. The rain had no effect on the ladies of the derby either... who have their skates laced, their game faces on and are ready to rock the Skate Ranch on this derby Sunday.

The first period of this bout started off a little slow scoring-wise, as each team went scoreless in quick first and second jams. Things didn't stay that way for long as Princess America threw down an impressive 17 points for the Tai Chi-Tahs while her teammates held Shirley Temper and the Debutante Brawlers to only 4 points. This jam 3 scoring rout gave the Tai Chi-Tahs an early 17 to 4 lead. In the next jam, Teflon Donna scored 4 for the Debs while Violet Femme of the Chi-Tahs was held scoreless, which lessened the Chi-Tahs lead to a score of 17-8. Jam 5 found Princess America and the Chi-Tahs held pointless again while Eva Lye of the Debs scored 1 point to further lessen her team's deficit to 17-9. After 2 scoreless jams for the Chi-Tahs team, Eris Discordia put up 2 points while Kitty Crowbar for the Debs was held scoreless. This takes the Chi-Tahs lead up to a score of 19-9. In jam 7, Teflon Donna of the Debs edged out Betty Rumble of the Chi-Tahs in points, 4 to 3... which brought the Chi-Tahs lead down a hair to 22-13. In a wild Jam 8, Shirley Temper of the Debs scored 7 points while Violet Femme of the Chi-Tahs racked up 11 to take her team's lead back up to 13. Ms. Fit and the Debs fought back a little in the next jam to get 6 points, with her team holding Betty Rumble and the Chi-Tahs to 4... but Princess America and the Chi-Tahs returned the favor in jam 10, getting 4 points while holding Eva Lye and the Debs to only 2. The Chi-Tahs now hold a commanding lead by a score of 41 to 28, but the Debs are not out of this thing. In the next jam, Teflon Donna of the Debs scored 4 points while holding Violet Femme of the Chi-Tahs scoreless... then 2 jams later, Teflon Donna put up another 3 points for the Debs while her team held Eris Discordia and the Chi-Tahs scoreless yet again. This cut the Chi-Tahs lead down to a score of 41 to 35. The final jam of the first period saw Ms. Fit and the Debs throwing down 11 points while Violet Femme and the Chi-Tahs were blanked again. This jam capped off an unbelievable comeback for the Debs in period one, giving them their first lead of the night by a score of 46-41, after being down several times by as much as 13 points.

After a groovy intermission roller disco performance by Team Crunk, it was time to get back to the derby action. After a few scoreless jams to kick off period 2, Ms. Fit opened the scoring for the Debs by getting 3 while Eris Discordia scored 2 for the Chi-Tahs. In the next jam Shirley Temper of the Debs and Betty Rumble of the Chi-Tahs each scored one point for their team followed by Princess America getting 2 points for the Chi-Tahs while Eva Lye and the Debs were held scoreless. The Debs lead is now holding at 4 points, 50 to 46. In Jam 18, Betty Rumble and the Chi-Tahs doubled up Ms. Fit and the Debs, 6 points to 3, cutting the Debs lead down to 1. After a quick scoreless jam, Princess America racked up 8 points for the Chi-Tahs while her team held Kitty Crowbar and the Debs to zero... resulting in the Chi-Tahs retaking a 60 to 53 lead in the bout. Both teams scored a handful of points in the next jam, with Teflon Donna and the Debs edging out Violet Femme of the Chi-Tahs 9 to 8 points... but the Chi-Tahs still hold the lead. Eris Discordia extended the Chi-Tahs lead by 4 in the next jam, while her team held Shirley Temper and the Debs scoreless. In subsequent jams, the Debs came storming back to regain the lead behind Eva Lye's 4 points and Teflon Donna's 9 points, both times holding the Chi-Tahs scoreless... with Princess America and Violet Femme jamming respectively. The next jam found the Debs extending their lead with Teflon Donna racking up 8 points while Maddat U of the Chi-Tahs was held to 4. At the end of the second period, the Debutante Brawlers find themselves with an 83 to 76 lead.

After Team Crunk hit the floor again during intermission to do their thing, it was back to the derby. In the first jam of the third and final period, the Chi-Tahs and Betty Rumble cut the deficit a little by scoring 7 points while Eva Lye and the Debs put up 5. After a scoreless jam, Violet Femme and the Chi-Tahs roared back into the lead by getting 8 points while holding Kitty Crowbar and the Debs to none for the jam. The Chi-Tahs extended their lead by 1 behind Betty Rumble while blanking Shirley Temper and the Debs again. A few quick, scoreless jams later... Violet Femme and the Chi-Tahs dropped 9 points on Kitty Crowbar and the Debs, holding them to 4 points for the jam. After a slight scoring adjustment, the Tai Chi-Tahs now lead by a score of 101 to 88... seemingly in control of the bout. In the next 2 jams, the Chi-Tahs extended their lead by a few points with Eris Discordia scoring 4 for the Chi-Tahs and Teflon Donna scoring 3 for the Debs... then Princess America getting 1 for the Chi-Tahs while holding Shirley Temper and the Debs scoreless. With the Chi-Tahs lead now standing at 15, Teflon Donna and the Debs fought back with 9 points while keeping Eris Discordia and the Chi-Tahs off of the scoreboard. It appeared we were in for yet another momentum changing moment in the bout, with the Chi-Tahs now only leading 106 to 100. It appeared that way... at least until Princess America and the Chi-Tahs threw down the gauntlet in crunch time with 13 points while holding Kitty Crowbar and the Debs to only 1 point in the next jam. Eris Discordia and the Chi-Tahs salted things with 4 more points in the following jam, while Teflon Donna and the Debs were blanked. With time running out and only enough time for one last jam, it appeared that the new girls on the block were going to remain unbeaten. Each team added 7 more points to the scoreboard in the 37th and final jam of the night... but the lead remained the same. The Tai Chi-Tahs take the win with a final score of 130-108.

This third bout of season 3 was a wild and wooly one to say the least. Just when one team would take a huge lead and looked as though they would run away with the bout... the other team grabbed some momentum, fought back and took the lead themselves. It was only near the end of the bout that the Chi-Tahs took back the baton and ran with it all the way to the finish line. There were lots of big hits and tumbling skaters in this one. Eva Lye took a mean elbow to the eye near the beginning of the third period and showed her toughness by making her way back to the rink a few jams later. This was a great bout from start to finish, with furious hitting that made the WWF look like a Cub Scouts jamboree and speed skating that Apolo Ohno would take note of. The semi-final and the championship bouts of this season are shaping up to be the best we have seen yet.

Be sure to check out the next Carolina Rollergirls bout in July as The Debutante Brawlers take on The Trauma Queens in the semi-finals. Get yourself some tickets if you are near the Raleigh area or check out the local rollergirls in your area.
